Difficult to understand questions

My son is appearing for his class XII with commerce. He has the following problem when he prepares for the exam.
He feels he knows everything but when he sits for exam sometimes he cannot recollect, make silly mistakes and also at times does not understand the question.
Naran
Chant “MUSTARD, DIAMOND” over a glass of water and ask him to take it on the date of exam.
Write 398 in a paper and keep it under his pillow.
Explanation
Understand: MUSTARD
Recollect from memory: DIAMOND

My daughter results for her post-graduation competitive exam for higher medical studies came out and she didn’t fare well. So, she is upset.
I would like you to suggest some remedy so that next time she comes out with flying colors by working hard.
